Matt Cardle won the X Factor 2010 in what turned out to be one of the most successful series of the show, as One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, Katie Waissel and Mary Byrne also became household well known names. (See Mary Byrne murder enquiries)
Since winning the show the painter and decorator has had a hit with his album reaching number 2 in the charts and also a hit No.1 single.
And Matt’s glad that One Direction – who he travelled with on The X Factor live tour – are having incredible success in America. (One Direction girlfriends revealed)
He commented: ‘Um, it’s so different what they are doing and what I’m doing. But I’m so happy for those boys,’ he said with sincerity.
‘Before they left for America I gate crashed one of their rehearsals and they haven’t changed at all.
‘They just go at one hundred miles an hour.
‘On X Factor tours in the past, the female winners always had their own dressing room and the male winners didn’t. So I said I would muck in with everyone else.
‘But after one show I had to ask for my own room because I was sick of seeing One Direction in their pants! They were jumping off the walls and bouncing off me.
‘I was like: “Flipping heck, I can’t handle this!”‘

Asked if he had any animosity to One Direction or the other X Factor contestants because they had released a number of cd’s since the end of the show Matt said: “Absolutely not. Everybody went into that show…. everybody has worked so hard….everybody deserves to do what they can and deserve everything they get out of it.”
Cardell said:”I’m completely different to One Direction. Their a boy band for a start and they are appealing to every teenage girl on the planet at the moment, so that’s not me is it.”
